Earlier today, it was reported that Joshua Kimmich, the midfielder for Bayern Munich, has become the primary target for FC Barcelona as they seek to strengthen their pivot position this summer. New manager Hansi Flick, who is well-acquainted with Kimmich’s skills, believes he would be an excellent addition to his team. Given that Kimmich’s contract is set to expire in 2025, Barcelona views this as a potentially achievable signing.
Nonetheless, Barcelona is encountering significant challenges in their pursuit of Kimmich. His substantial salary demands and the interest from other leading clubs add complexity to the situation. Manchester City, under the leadership of Pep Guardiola, is already competing for his signature. Additionally, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has entered the competition, showing strong determination to acquire the Bayern star.
PSG’s manager, Luis Enrique, is reportedly very impressed by Kimmich’s versatile abilities and is keen on bringing him to the club in the French capital. PSG is working towards reaching an agreement with Kimmich and his representatives before commencing negotiations with Bayern Munich.
Kimmich appears poised to leave the Allianz Arena, although any final decision regarding his future will likely be postponed until after the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament. With PSG making a concerted effort, Barcelona must act quickly to avoid missing out on Kimmich, especially considering he could be an economical option at a transfer fee of €30-40 million and is already familiar with Flick’s coaching style.
Barcelona is also considering other options, such as Amadou Onana and Mikel Merino, but Kimmich remains their top priority. Given PSG’s entry into the race, Barça needs to expedite their efforts to secure his signature.
