Cristiano Ronaldo is purportedly under scrutiny following an incident where he appeared to make a lewd gesture subsequent to a Saudi Pro League match. On Sunday, the 39-year-old’s team, Al-Nassr, faced off against Al-Shabab, a team boasting players such as former Atletico Madrid midfielder Yannick Carrasco and ex-Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic.
Ronaldo initiated the scoring via a penalty kick at the 21st-minute mark, but his team conceded an equalizing penalty from Carrasco just before halftime. Talisca then regained the lead for the visiting team after halftime, and he later secured a late victory for Al Nassr following a goal from Carlos, which equalized for the hosts.
With a 3-2 victory secured and three points in the bag, Ronaldo expressed his congratulations to his teammates at the conclusion of the match. However, he seemed to be bothered by chants from home fans invoking the name of his former El Clasico rival, Lionel Messi. In response, Ronaldo gestured towards his ear before making a gesture towards his groin, seemingly directed at the attending supporters.
According to a report from The Telegraph, the Saudi newspaper Asharq al-Awsat stated that the national football federation (SAFF) has initiated an investigation into the incident. In his second season in Saudi Arabia, the Portuguese star has upheld his impressive goal-scoring record, currently leading the league’s scoring charts.
His penalty on Sunday brought his season tally to 22 goals in 20 appearances. Nonetheless, despite Ronaldo’s efforts, Al-Nassr remains four points behind the undefeated Al-Hilal in the league standings.
