Breaking news: Fabrizio Romano reports, “Before the match, I knew that VAR would be our only problem. They do this to us every single time,” Jurgen Klopp’s furious reaction to the clear penalty miss in Liverpool’s bitterly disappointing draw with Manchester City has reignited concerns about the perceived bias of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Klopp is adamant that his team is consistently disadvantaged by VAR, expressing his frustration at the apparent bias against Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp didn’t hold back his frustration following Liverpool’s 1-1 stalemate against Manchester City, particularly aggrieved by the denied penalty claim in the dying moments of the match.

Klopp was adamant that Liverpool deserved a penalty after Jeremy Doku’s challenge on Alexis Mac Allister during stoppage time. Despite Doku seeming to catch Mac Allister on the chest, the on-field referee Michael Oliver and VAR concluded that Doku had played the ball first, a decision Klopp vehemently opposed, expressing his dismay with the VAR process.

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Klopp questioned the effectiveness of VAR, suggesting its primary focus should be ensuring correct decisions rather than hesitating to overturn calls. He argued that Doku’s challenge should have been deemed a foul, deserving a yellow card, emphasizing that despite making contact with the ball, Doku’s foot was dangerously high, posing a risk to the opponent.

Klopp didn’t shy away from criticizing the decision-makers, hinting at potential biases and even jokingly suggesting affiliations with specific media outlets. Despite his disappointment with the officiating, Klopp commended his team’s resilience and determination, underscoring their readiness to continue competing in the ongoing title race.

Looking ahead, Klopp shifted his attention to Liverpool’s forthcoming Europa League last-16 encounter against Sparta Praha. Despite holding a commanding 5-1 advantage from the first leg, Klopp stressed the importance of maintaining performance and mentality in the second leg to ensure progression.
