Ben Jacobs shares the current ‘feeling’ around Mo Salah’s future at Liverpool

There is a prevailing expectation that Mohamed Salah is likely to extend his tenure with Liverpool Football Club for a duration spanning a minimum of one additional season.

Naturally, the outcome hinges upon the alignment between a prospective new manager and the restructured executive hierarchy of the club regarding the future course of action concerning the Egyptian sensation.

In a nostalgic display, Fernando Torres finds the net for Liverpool Legends, reminiscent of his prime days.

In a recent episode of CaughtOffside’s The Debrief podcast, Ben Jacobs opined, “Regarding Salah, there has always been an expectation that he would extend his stay at Liverpool for one more season, which may disappoint the Saudi suitors this summer. However, this does not preclude their patience in awaiting a potential move until the summer of 2025.”

Now that a new manager has taken the reins, will Salah’s disposition undergo a transformation? Is the current juncture opportune to bid adieu, or will he seize the opportunity to aid Liverpool in embarking on a new era?

“Liverpool finds itself in a favorable scenario on multiple fronts since the Saudis are likely to present a comparable financial proposition. The eventual destination would probably be Al-Hilal rather than Al-Ittihad. If Liverpool clinches the title, they will enjoy a substantial financial advantage in the summer transfer market when seeking a replacement.

“This is a pivotal moment where a player of Pedro Neto’s caliber could command a price tag of £70 million or £80 million. Salah’s decision to stay will hinge on what best serves Liverpool’s interests. From a transitional standpoint, it offers a silver lining as it affords the club more time to identify a long-term successor. Additionally, Salah brings invaluable energy to the dressing room and has maintained a consistent goal-scoring record, surpassing the 20-goal mark in eight consecutive seasons.

“I anticipate that Liverpool will navigate this transition smoothly under a new manager, or alternatively, capitalize on the opportunity to generate revenue.” The chosen path will be determined initially by the identity of the new manager, followed by discussions between Salah, Richard Hughes, and Michael Edwards. Liverpool sought to establish their football hierarchy promptly to focus on pursuing Premier League glory and, if possible, secure multiple trophies in Klopp’s farewell campaign.

The concluding weeks of March and the onset of April provide a relatively tranquil period, allowing for substantive discussions among the stakeholders. Operating in their characteristic manner, Liverpool is poised to ascertain their stance with players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, and Salah by mid-to-late April, even if such deliberations are not divulged to the public.

As the summer transfer window looms, it is anticipated that Saudi interest in the 31-year-old winger will intensify.

Should the club opt to accept the funds from Salah’s departure or lend support to the transition?

While some supporters may be swayed by the prospect of bolstering the transfer budget for Klopp’s successor, we are inclined to advocate for continuity during a period that could potentially be fraught with uncertainty following the departure of one of the most illustrious and successful managers in the club’s history.

The task of replacing Klopp is formidable enough, but having to fill the void left by two stalwarts of the club poses an even greater challenge.

While players may be more readily interchangeable than managers, retaining Salah to help navigate the transition phase would undoubtedly be preferable.
