Inter Miami owner David Beckham have given a damning update on Lionel Messi’s condition following his ankle injury during the Copa America final

Lionel Messi sustained an injury during the Copa America final clash between Argentina and Colombia, prompting his substitution in the 66th minute at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida. Following the incident, Nicolas Gonzalez entered the game in his place, while Messi, visibly distressed, was seen on the sidelines with a severely swollen ankle. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner was even moved to tears as he watched from the bench, but ultimately celebrated his team’s victory in extra time, securing his second consecutive Copa America title, largely thanks to Lautaro Martinez’s decisive goal.

Inter Miami manager Gerardo Martino revealed earlier this week that Messi is expected to miss several matches due to the injury, which resulted from twisting his ankle. Martino explained, “The injury remains a concern as it involves ligament damage. We are awaiting further test results.” Walter Insaurralde, the team’s kinesiologist who also works with the national team, is closely monitoring Messi’s condition before making any definitive statements.

Unfortunately, initial tests indicated that Messi may face a prolonged period on the sidelines due to muscle damage. In a statement released by Inter Miami, it was confirmed, “Leo Messi has suffered ligament injury in his right ankle, as diagnosed in a recent medical examination. Regular evaluations will determine his recovery timeline, ensuring he returns to play as soon as possible.”

Martino’s squad, set to face Toronto FC and Chicago Fire this week, will feel the absence of their captain deeply, especially as they strive to maintain their standing in the Eastern Conference.
