LIVE FROM OLD TRAFFORD: “SACKING TEN HAG WOULD BE A HUGE MISTAKE HE HAS MATCHED MOURINHO” – NEVILLE URGES MAN UTD TO KEEP MANAGER FORMER MANCHESTER UNITED CAPTAIN GARY NEVILLE HAS ADVISED THE CLUB’S OWNERS THAT ERIK TEN HAG DESERVES TO REMAIN AS MANAGER AMID RUMORS OF HIS POTENTIAL DISMISSAL THIS SUMMER. NEVILLE BELIEVES TEN HAG HAS ‘EARNED THE RIGHT’ TO KEEP HIS POSITION, COMPARING HIS ACHIEVEMENTS TO THOSE OF MOURINHO.
Gary Neville has assessed Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Manchester United, placing him on par with Jose Mourinho as the most successful manager at the club since the era of Sir Alex Ferguson.
As Manchester United’s proprietors ponder the future—whether to dismiss ten Hag or give him further opportunity for enhancement following their FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City—Neville shared his insights on his show, The Overlap.
Neville pointed out, “The victory in the FA Cup has certainly presented a conundrum for Manchester United. Their performance throughout the Premier League season has been below expectations.”
He elaborated on the challenges faced by ten Hag, noting, “Ten Hag could point out that his defensive lineup hasn’t been steady, which has been a significant handicap. Yet, it’s the apparent lack of dominance in numerous matches that raises alarms.”
Despite these issues, Neville recognized ten Hag’s achievements, stating, “He has clinched two trophies in two years, indicating he can lead the team to success. His record thus far mirrors that of Mourinho’s post-Ferguson period. In my view, he has earned the right to further his project at the club.”
Neville also addressed the scarcity of better alternatives, arguing, “Currently, there isn’t a readily available candidate who could step in and instantly transform this squad to top the league standings. Even with someone as adept as Guardiola, this current United lineup is unlikely to clinch the Premier League title.”
