Chelsea Football Club, under the leadership of their newly appointed manager Enzo Maresca, has announced their inaugural signing: defender Tosin Adarabioyo, who has inked a four-year deal. The 26-year-old, previously with Manchester City and most recently plying his trade at Fulham, will officially don the Chelsea colors starting July 1, upon the expiry of his current contract with Fulham.

Adarabioyo’s arrival adds to Chelsea’s recent bolstering of their central defensive options, aligning with acquisitions such as Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, and Axel Disasi. His recruitment marks the commencement of the Maresca era at Stamford Bridge, having successfully undergone medical assessments earlier this week. Following the departure of Thiago Silva to Fluminense, Adarabioyo’s presence is viewed as pivotal in fortifying Chelsea’s defensive line, with the club esteeming his ball-playing composure and aerial capabilities.

The journey of Adarabioyo traces back to his formative years at Manchester City, where he spent an impressive 17-year tenure before seeking more regular playing time at Fulham. Over his four-year stint at Craven Cottage, he emerged as a promising central defender, attracting interest from various clubs, including Newcastle United.

In a decisive move, Adarabioyo opted against a lucrative contract extension with Fulham in favor of joining Chelsea. His enthusiasm for the switch was palpable, citing Chelsea’s stature as a pivotal factor, given his close ties to the area, having been born just miles away from Stamford Bridge. Reflecting on his journey, he expressed eagerness to contribute to Chelsea’s aspirations, fueled by a desire for success and a determination to uphold the club’s rich tradition of winning trophies.

Adarabioyo’s tenure at Fulham saw him amass 132 appearances since his arrival from Manchester City in 2020, following loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers.
