DONE DEAL: Manchester United complete the signing of Dutchman on a 5yr deal, Medical completed last night – Unveiling currently ongoing at London Carrington

After six seasons without a single trophy, Manchester United appointed Dutch coach Erik ten Hag to lead the team. The former Ajax manager swiftly ended the trophy drought by securing the League Cup in his debut season, although he fell short in the FA Cup final and managed to get the team back into the UEFA Champions League.

In his second season, despite lackluster performances in the league and Champions League, Ten Hag brought home an even more prestigious trophy. His team triumphed over champions Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Surprisingly, the new Manchester United management has chosen to extend Ten Hag’s contract by only a year without offering him a pay raise. According to The Mirror, the club has agreed to a one-year extension that will keep Ten Hag’s salary at £173,000 per week, totaling £9 million per season.

This decision suggests two possible implications. Firstly, it indicates that Ratcliffe, a significant figure in the club’s hierarchy, was initially reluctant to retain Ten Hag, and the FA Cup victory might have compelled him to reconsider. Secondly, it implies that INEOS, another influential party, does not view Ten Hag’s accomplishments as worthy of a salary increase, and the single-year extension suggests that they still consider him to be on probation.

This situation raises an important question: how can a coach perform at his best without the full support and backing of the management?

What do you think—did Erik ten Hag deserve a more substantial reward for his achievements over the past two years?
