Barcelona will push for the permanent signing of forward despite €3m clause expiring

Pau Victor has emerged as a pivotal figure in Barcelona Athletic’s campaign for promotion to La Liga 2 this season. The striker, currently on loan from fellow Catalan outfit Girona, has showcased his prowess by scoring an impressive total of 20 goals from 37 appearances across various competitions for Rafa Marquez’s squad.

Victor’s stellar performances have played a crucial role in Barcelona Athletic’s journey to the finals of the promotion playoffs, a feat achieved after a convincing victory over Ibiza in the previous round.

Barcelona had secured a permanent purchase option for Pau Victor, set at €3 million, which they were keen on exercising to secure his long-term presence at the club.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s opportunity to secure Pau Victor for the previously agreed-upon €3 million fee lapsed on April 1. However, despite this setback, Barcelona is committed to acquiring the 22-year-old forward on a permanent basis and is actively pursuing negotiations with Girona to reach a deal.

Recognizing that the initial April 1 deadline was inadequately set, Barcelona acknowledges unforeseen challenges such as financial fair play restrictions, which were not anticipated when Victor’s loan arrival on August 17, 2023, was formalized.

The desire to retain Victor as a permanent member of the team conflicts with the prevailing uncertainty at FC Barcelona due to ongoing financial strains, pending the finalization of the Nike deal and securing a replacement for Libero to alleviate the €40 million debt associated with Barça Vision.

Nevertheless, Barcelona remains determined to find a resolution with Girona, driven by their high regard for Victor’s talent. Apart from his goal-scoring prowess, Victor’s versatility to operate on the left flank adds to his appeal.

Barcelona acknowledges the potential need to exceed the €3 million mark to secure an attacker who would prove invaluable in the event of promotion to the second division and as a reliable backup for Robert Lewandowski in the first team.

Given Girona’s interest in players such as Eric Garcia, Oriol Romeu, and Pablo Torre, negotiations involving Victor could extend to potential player exchanges within these deals.
