“This Is The Worst Decision Ever” Chelsea Is Doomed Because This Todd Boehly Decision Will Make Enzo Maresca Perform Worse Than Pochettino

I’m utterly exasperated with having to reiterate this, but my confidence in the decision-makers at this club is once again being thoroughly eroded.
I’ve been striving to remain composed, holding out hope that it won’t come to fruition. Yet, I can’t help but feel deeply concerned about the potential signing of Jhon Duran as Chelsea’s new number 9, even at a £30m price tag. Should this transfer proceed, Chelsea fans are likely to be livid.
The club is already under immense pressure, particularly after appointing an unproven and unimpressive head coach. If this plan backfires, the backlash from fans will be monumental, with owners and sporting directors facing significant scrutiny. Now, the notion of signing Duran to lead our attack for £40m is almost unbearable.
I am tired of emphasizing the necessity for proven quality additions to our squad. Why would we contemplate adding another young and untested striker to compete with the raw talent we already have? Last season, we prematurely thrust a young, inexperienced striker into the leading role, and now someone has decided that bringing in another similarly inexperienced player is a good idea. This is simply ludicrous.
Our squad is already filled with young, raw, and inexperienced players. The glaring need for experienced and high-quality talent is being blatantly ignored. Many pundits and former Chelsea players whom I respect have echoed this sentiment throughout the season, as has nearly the entire fan base. Yet, the sporting directors at Chelsea seem to believe they know better.
This isn’t a critique of Duran’s abilities. He isn’t a bad player and has considerable potential. However, signing him for the fees being discussed is utterly preposterous. Our squad desperately needs a proven striker, and the thought of Duran fulfilling that role is baffling.
Duran has not been a key player for Aston Villa since joining in January 2023, having only started three league games. How anyone could view him as the solution to our number 9 dilemma is beyond comprehension. If he isn’t in Unai Emery’s long-term plans, why should he be in Chelsea’s? His track record includes stints with Envigado, Chicago Fire, and Aston Villa, with a total of just 8 goals in 49 appearances for Villa, and 26 in 130 appearances in his career thus far. Chelsea needs a proven goalscorer, and Duran simply does not fit that description. Additionally, there are concerns about his attitude, which reportedly contributed to Emery’s lack of enthusiasm for him. This isn’t encouraging.
While Duran might eventually prove to be a decent signing, the risk is substantial. The immediate need for a reliable goalscorer far outweighs the potential upside of another unproven talent. The club’s ambitions for next season include Champions League qualification and securing a trophy, yet they’re considering signing an inexperienced manager and striker. This defies logic.
The club might argue that any young player could develop into another Cole Palmer, but we need players who are already proven to be good. Let’s not forget that other young signings, like Cesare Casadei and David Datro Fofana, haven’t panned out as hoped.
Should Duran join Chelsea, I will support him wholeheartedly, as I would any player signed by the club. His success would be everyone’s success. However, it’s difficult to support a board that makes such questionable decisions.
I sincerely hope the club reconsiders this potential move for Duran and instead focuses on acquiring a proven striker. Alternatives like Dom Solanke, perhaps at a negotiated price lower than his £60m release clause, or Julian Alvarez for £70m, should be considered. If the club is willing to spend £40m on Duran, why not invest a bit more for a more reliable option?
Let’s see how this situation unfolds. We may not end up signing Duran, or perhaps we’ll negotiate a lower fee. Nonetheless, this speculation is concerning many fans, including myself. It’s crucial to voice our opinions now, rather than regret not having spoken out if the rumors become reality.
