Manchester United are considering an unexpected swap deal to secure the Brazilian international Raphinha from Barcelona.
Recently, there was news from Spain suggesting that Barcelona is prepared to include the £68 million-rated Raphinha, along with cash, in an offer for Manchester United’s young talent Mainoo.
The latest reports indicate that Manchester United are contemplating an offer involving Jadon Sancho in exchange for Raphinha during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Sancho, the England international, was loaned to Borussia Dortmund halfway through the last season after his relationship with United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, deteriorated. With Ten Hag set to continue at Old Trafford, Sancho’s future at Manchester United appears uncertain, despite his significant contribution to Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League campaign.
According to Catalan outlet Nacional, Dortmund is interested in permanently signing Sancho, but the 24-year-old’s £40 million price tag is beyond their financial reach.
In light of this, Manchester United have proposed a swap deal, offering Sancho to Barcelona in exchange for Raphinha. Barcelona, on their part, are keen to sell the South American winger.
Raphinha, who is 27 years old, played a key role in Barcelona’s successful 2022-23 La Liga campaign. However, with the rise of young talent Lamine Yamal on the right wing, Raphinha found himself starting only 17 league matches last season.
Despite his limited starts, Raphinha made significant contributions across all competitions, directly involved in over 20 goals for Xavi’s side. His skills and experience could potentially strengthen Manchester United’s struggling right wing.
Do you think Manchester United should replace Sancho with Raphinha?
