“He shocks me when ever he trains with us and I have been telling our coach [Erik ten Hag] to use him and replace injured players last season but he refused. I know he will break through and gets more chances next season because he is a pure talent just like Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Greenwood”-Luke Shaw names Man Utd wonderkid as the one young player fans need to watch out for next season as he plans to retire his position for him
Luke Shaw has pointed out a promising young talent at Manchester United for fans to follow closely.
Manchester United has a rich history of developing football legends through its academy. Among these greats are David Beckham, Gary Neville, Marcus Rashford, Paul Scholes, and Bobby Charlton. Each of these players started their illustrious careers at United’s youth setup.
In a recent conversation with GOAL, Luke Shaw, who plays as a full-back for both Manchester United and the England national team, identified a rising star worth watching. When asked to name a young player to look out for, Shaw mentioned, “He’s a young left-back from Man Utd, Harry Amass.”
Harry Amass made the switch from Watford’s academy to join Manchester United’s youth system last August, and his performance has been noteworthy ever since. Playing for United’s Under-18 team, Amass has scored once and provided four assists over 22 matches. His progress was highlighted in April when he was included on the bench for United’s Premier League game against Liverpool, a match that ended in an exciting 2-2 draw.
Currently, Shaw is busy with international duties, having been selected to play for England in Euro 2024. Despite suffering from an injury that has sidelined him from club action since February, England’s manager, Gareth Southgate, decided to include him in the squad. Speaking about the tournament, Southgate remarked, “If we don’t win, I probably won’t be here anymore. So maybe it is the last chance. I think around half the national coaches leave after a tournament – that’s the nature of international football. I’ve been here almost eight years now and we’ve come close.”
Shaw’s endorsement of Amass is a significant nod, suggesting that the young left-back has the potential to follow in the footsteps of United’s legendary academy graduates.
