First summer signing Done: Manchester United finally completes the signing of 24yr superstar, agreement reached overnight on a 5yr deal – Medical fixed as official announcement will be done today – Welcome to Old Trafford
Manchester United appear ready to compromise on their fullback positions to bolster their central defense this summer.
According to media reports, Manchester United are prepared to include Aaron Wan-Bissaka, valued at £17 million, in a deal to acquire Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, who has a price tag of £55 million.
An exclusive report from TEAMTalk indicates that the Red Devils are unwilling to pay more than £50 million for the Crystal Palace defender. To reduce the cost, they are considering offering Wan-Bissaka as part of the deal.
Wan-Bissaka, 26, had a challenging season last year due to injuries. However, when healthy, he was a regular starter under Erik ten Hag, even filling in as a left back when needed. Wan-Bissaka made 30 appearances across all competitions and played the full 90 minutes in United’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.
Reports from Turkey suggest that Galatasaray is interested in Wan-Bissaka and hopes his market value of approximately £17 million (20 million euros) will decrease.
Meanwhile, Marc Guehi also faced injury issues last season, missing over two months due to a knee injury. He returned to action in May, making 23 Premier League appearances. Guehi’s contract with Crystal Palace runs for another two years, and he is valued at around £55 million according to The Times.
Currently, Guehi is in Germany for the European Championships, where he played a key role in England’s 1-0 victory over Serbia in their opening group match.
During the 2023-24 season, Manchester United conceded the highest number of goals in a single Premier League campaign in their history, highlighting the need for a defensive overhaul this summer.
Although Wan-Bissaka may not be considered world-class, he proved his worth last season. Selling him without securing an adequate replacement might not be the best decision for the club.
What do you think – should Manchester United trade Wan-Bissaka back to Crystal Palace to acquire Marc Guehi?
