Chelsea close to agreement with Aston Villa for Omari Kellyman

Chelsea are on the verge of finalizing a transfer agreement with Aston Villa to acquire 18-year-old forward Omari Kellyman. The prospective deal is estimated to be around £19 million, though the exact terms are still being negotiated by both clubs. For the transfer to be officially completed, Kellyman will need to pass a medical examination and agree on personal terms with Chelsea.

Kellyman, who joined Aston Villa’s academy from Derby County in 2022, made his first-team debut in 2023. This transfer fee is slightly lower than the £20 million Chelsea spent to sign teenage midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022.

During the previous Premier League season, Kellyman made two substitute appearances, coming off the bench against Manchester City and Crystal Palace in the final months of the campaign. Additionally, he appeared twice as a late substitute in the Europa Conference League.

In October, Kellyman committed his future to Aston Villa by signing a long-term contract. Internationally, he initially represented Northern Ireland at the youth level but switched his allegiance to England in 2023, making his debut for England’s Under-20 team this month.

The Athletic also reported that Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign left-back Ian Maatsen. Although Maatsen had a £35 million release clause specific to Borussia Dortmund, which has since expired, Villa and Chelsea have agreed on a fee slightly above that amount. Personal terms for a six-year contract have been established, and Villa is working to finalize the details.
