Juventus are reportedly considering offering one of their star players to Manchester United in a bid to acquire Mason Greenwood.
The future of Mason Greenwood at Manchester United has been in limbo for over two years. The young English forward was arrested in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape and assault. Greenwood denied these accusations, and in February 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against him.
After conducting an internal investigation, Manchester United decided to loan Greenwood to Spanish club Getafe for the 2023-24 season. Greenwood thrived in La Liga, netting ten goals and providing six assists, which earned him the title of Getafe’s Player of the Season. Despite his impressive performance, United are keen to offload him permanently this summer. However, their asking price of £42 million has discouraged potential buyers, including Getafe.
Juventus has shown interest in Greenwood but is reportedly reluctant to meet Manchester United’s financial demands. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian club might propose a player exchange deal, offering their forward Federico Chiesa for Greenwood.
Federico Chiesa could be a valuable bargaining chip for Juventus. The Italian international’s contract with Juventus runs until 2025, but he has not yet agreed to a new contract with the club. Juventus is considering selling Chiesa to generate funds this summer. The decision on Chiesa’s future is expected to be made after Euro 2024, with Juventus and Chiesa’s agent, Fali Ramadani, scheduled to meet following the tournament in Germany. Although Juventus prefers to retain Chiesa, the ultimate decision will rest with the player.
Manchester United also has another potential suitor for Greenwood in Lazio, another Serie A club interested in the 22-year-old forward. This gives United additional leverage and options as they seek to finalize Greenwood’s transfer.
