FINALLY DONE DEAL: Michael Olise snub Bayern Munich move to accept Man united late offer – 5yrs agreed, player to takeover Anthony jersey number as Medical will be done today – Congratulations Man United fans
Manchester United’s pursuit of Crystal Palace’s standout player, Michael Olise, remains active this summer, despite Bayern Munich being the frontrunner to secure his signature. United, alongside Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Liverpool, have shown interest in Olise. Both Chelsea and Newcastle approached the forward before Palace settled on a €60 million (£50.7 million) deal with Bayern, inclusive of add-ons. Although Chelsea offered Olise a lucrative salary, they exited the competition for his signing last month. Olise is anticipated to commit to a five-year contract with Bayern.
Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports Germany has provided updates indicating Bayern’s urgency to finalize the transfer, especially with Manchester United poised to potentially intercept the deal. While Olise is inclined towards a move to Bayern and a contract until 2029, the agreement’s final details between the clubs are still pending. This delay has pushed the medical examination to this week, originally scheduled for last week. Manchester United, under Erik ten Hag, remain vigilant, ready to step in should any complications arise, maintaining their interest in the talented Palace winger.
Olise’s performance in the Premier League last season was impressive, scoring ten goals in 19 matches, including a brace against Manchester United in a 4-0 victory for Palace at Selhurst Park in early May. Last summer, Olise nearly transferred to Chelsea when they triggered a £35 million release clause in his contract, but he chose to stay at Palace, subsequently signing a new contract until 2027 with an increased release clause reported to be around £60 million.
Olise’s preference for Bayern Munich is reportedly influenced by their participation in the Champions League, a competition missed by Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Chelsea this season. Manchester United will compete in the Europa League, having secured their spot by defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley. This outcome relegated Chelsea to the Europa Conference League and left Newcastle without European football.
Next season, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa will represent England in the Champions League. Earlier reports suggested Chelsea had reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with Olise and were negotiating the payment of his release clause with Palace, though the solidity of these agreements remains unclear.
Born in London, Olise began his career in Chelsea’s academy before moving to Manchester City’s youth setup. In 2017, he joined Reading, debuting against Leeds United in March 2019. During his tenure at Reading, he scored seven goals and provided 14 assists in 73 appearances, which led to his transfer to Crystal Palace in July 2021 for approximately £8 million. His initial contract with Palace was for five years, running until 2026.
Olise isn’t the only Palace player linked with a potential move to Manchester United; winger Eberechi Eze is also reportedly on their radar. Eze is currently representing England at Euro 2024, drawing additional attention to his potential transfer.
