Marcos Alonso has said goodbye to Barcelona fans after it was confirmed that he will be leaving the club following the expiration of his contract. The left-back, who played for Barcelona for two years and won two trophies during his time there, expressed his gratitude for the chance to wear the blaugrana shirt.
On Instagram, Alonso shared his thoughts: “It has been an honor to wear the blaugrana shirt. I have taken away many experiences from these two seasons, but I especially want to highlight the affection from all the culés and the wonderful atmosphere in a spectacular dressing room, along with winning a League title and a Spanish Super Cup. Thank you to all the club staff who make FC Barcelona so much more than just a club. I wish you all the best for the future, and I will be cheering from home as always. Long live Barca.”
Joining Barcelona in 2022 on a free transfer from Chelsea, Alonso fulfilled a childhood dream. His father, who was also a former player for the club, played a significant role in nurturing his passion for Barcelona, often taking him to games at the Camp Nou when he was young.
Looking ahead, Alonso is eager to explore new opportunities for the 2024-25 season, although his next destination is still unknown at this time.
