The Rangers football club is currently investigating multiple possible player acquisitions this summer. This effort is led by their manager, Philippe Clement, who is preparing the team for the upcoming Champions League qualifiers. Recognizing the necessity for squad enhancements, Clement, in collaboration with the head of recruitment, Nils Koppen, is dedicated to bolstering the team’s strength and capabilities.
Among the new prospects being evaluated, a familiar name has resurfaced. According to Soccernet, Rangers have renewed their interest in Bright Osayi-Samuel, a player they previously pursued when Giovanni van Bronckhorst was the manager. A Nigerian media outlet reports that the versatile winger, who currently plays alongside former Rangers player Ryan Kent at Fenerbahce, has drawn the club’s attention due to his positional shift and outstanding performances.
Rangers had initially tried to sign Osayi-Samuel on a pre-contract agreement two seasons ago. With his future at Fenerbahce now uncertain, he has become a feasible target once more. Osayi-Samuel, who has transitioned from a winger to a right-back, has openly discussed his ambitions.
“The plan for me right now is just to wait and see,” Osayi-Samuel told Football Live. “Everyone in Turkey knows that my ambition is to play in the Premier League one day. If the timing is right this summer, hopefully, I will find the right club. My agent and father are handling discussions with clubs, so that’s all I can say for now.”
Despite high praise from a former Turkey international, who once said Osayi-Samuel “could play for Real Madrid or Barcelona,” a move to a top club did not happen. However, the 26-year-old now has interest from Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Osayi-Samuel’s transfer value, which was once as high as £5 million when he was at QPR, could be significantly lower now, with Fenerbahce reportedly willing to accept a bargain fee, as suggested by journalist Alan Nixon.
Rangers face a dilemma with their current right-back options, including James Tavernier and Dujon Sterling. Yet, considering the need for full-backs who can contribute offensively, Osayi-Samuel’s speed and versatility make him an appealing option. If Tavernier’s potential move to Saudi Arabia goes through, Rangers could push to secure Osayi-Samuel. Even if Tavernier stays, adding quality on the right wing with Osayi-Samuel might be a wise decision for Clement and his team.
