Enzo Maresca and Chelsea owner Todd Boehly are pushing to sign a Serie A star with Premier League experience.
Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Ademola Lookman as Enzo Maresca aims to strengthen the team’s attacking options this summer. Lookman, a 26-year-old forward, had an exceptional season with Atalanta, notably scoring a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen in May.
Throughout the season, Lookman scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 45 appearances, drawing the attention of many European clubs.
According to Calciomercato, Chelsea is among the interested clubs and is prepared to offer close to the €60 million (£51 million) asking price. This is a significant increase from the €15 million (£12.7 million) Atalanta paid for Lookman less than two years ago.
Lookman’s career has been dynamic, starting with a loan move to RB Leipzig, where he eventually joined permanently in July. This was followed by loan spells at Fulham and Leicester City. At Leicester, Lookman impressed by scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 42 appearances. Despite his success at Leicester, he chose to join Atalanta permanently.
If Chelsea secures Lookman’s signature, they would be adding a player with substantial Premier League experience. Lookman is known for his speed and direct style of play, mainly operating as a left winger.
His ability to both score and create goals would significantly boost Chelsea’s attacking lineup. Lookman’s pace and productivity would be especially valuable for the team, which aims to compete for top honors in the upcoming season.
Lookman’s journey through various leagues and clubs has made him a versatile and experienced player. At RB Leipzig, he gained experience in the Bundesliga, showcasing his potential as a dynamic winger. His loan to Fulham allowed him to adapt further to the Premier League’s demands.
However, his time at Leicester City truly highlighted his capabilities in England’s top flight. Scoring eight goals and assisting five times in 42 appearances for Leicester, Lookman demonstrated his ability to make decisive contributions on the pitch.
His move to Atalanta proved to be a turning point, delivering an outstanding season that included a memorable hat-trick in the Europa League final. This performance solidified his reputation and attracted attention from top clubs across Europe, including Chelsea.
For Chelsea, signing Lookman would be a strategic move to reinforce their attacking department. His experience, along with his ability to deliver in crucial moments, aligns perfectly with Chelsea’s ambitions. The club’s willingness to meet the €60 million asking price reflects their recognition of Lookman’s potential impact.
