Manchester United are actively seeking a new defensive midfielder, with Joao Neves emerging as a key target. Reports from Portugal indicate that the Red Devils have already tabled a bid of 70 million euros to entice the Benfica star this summer.
According to today’s edition of O Jogo, Manchester United have initiated the process to sign Joao Neves. This pursuit has also caught the attention of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and, more recently, Manchester City. The Sky Blues have now entered the competition, joining United and the French champions in the race to secure Neves’s services.
The report highlights that Manchester United have taken definitive steps to secure Neves from Benfica. Although no official offer has been made yet, both United and PSG have made significant progress. Jorge Mendes, Neves’s agent, has informed Benfica’s president, Rui Costa, about the strong interest from both clubs.
Initially, Benfica had hoped to sell Antonio Silva this summer. However, due to Silva’s lackluster performance in the 2023/24 season and his high demands, the club has now deemed the sale of Joao Neves necessary to balance their finances.
As a result, Benfica anticipates an auction for the Portuguese midfielder and are seeking a fee exceeding 100 million euros (approximately £85 million).
