Rivaldo, the legendary figure of the Spanish team Barcelona, has urged the management of the Catalan club to sign a replacement for Polish international Robert Lewandowski, who currently serves as Barcelona’s striker.
Lewandowski, now 35 years old, has been rumored to potentially transfer to the Saudi League this summer, despite being under contract with the Catalan club until June 2026.
In an interview with the Spanish newspaper “Sport,” Rivaldo stated, “Barcelona must begin considering an alternative to Lewandowski because he is aging and has lost the decisive edge that set him apart during his time at Bayern Munich.” He emphasized, “A team like Barcelona must compete with the best in the world, and this includes keeping an eye on top players available in the transfer market for all positions.”
Rivaldo continued by saying, “Lewandowski is undoubtedly a world-class star, but it is well-known that aging and injuries can impact performance. Therefore, I urge the Barcelona administration to sign a world-class striker to lead the team’s attack next season.”
He further expressed his opinion, “I believe that Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez would be an excellent fit for German coach Hansi Flick. Martinez is not only fast but also possesses skill, strength, and decisiveness in front of goal. Consequently, Barcelona’s success next season hinges on signing Martinez and keeping Lewandowski as a backup option.”
Regarding Barcelona’s interest in signing Neco Williams, Rivaldo commented, “Securing Williams would be a fantastic move. Barcelona should monitor his performance during Euro 2024, as depending on how he performs, they might face more competition to acquire him. Nevertheless, he seems like a great option to me.”
