Manchester United are poised to finalize their first acquisition of the summer transfer season after reaching an agreement to bring Joshua Zirkzee to Old Trafford.

According to Italian reports, Manchester United have struck a deal valued at £48 million to secure the services of the Dutch international from Bologna.

As reported by Calcio Mercato, the 23-year-old forward has a release clause set at 40 million euros in his contract. However, Manchester United have consented to pay an approximate fee of 46 million euros. This amount will be disbursed in installments over a three-year period. Of the 40 million euros, a percentage is earmarked for Bayern Munich, Zirkzee’s former club. Bologna, on the other hand, will retain the additional 6 million euros.

AC Milan had shown significant interest in acquiring Zirkzee but were deterred by the agent commission required to finalize the deal. Contrarily, Manchester United have agreed to pay an additional 11 million euros in agent fees, part of which will be directed to Zirkzee’s family.

In total, Manchester United have committed to a deal amounting to 57 million euros, or £48 million, to secure their first signing of the summer.

Joshua Zirkzee, who was part of the Netherlands’ squad for Euro 2024, is expected to undergo his medical examination today.

Last season, all teams in the top half of the Premier League, except Crystal Palace, outscored Manchester United. Consequently, acquiring Zirkzee is a positive move aimed at bolstering their offensive capabilities, much to the delight of their supporters.
