Sunday Morning Transfer Update: Manchester United’s Improved Bid for Ferdi Kadioglu

Manchester United have intensified their efforts to secure the signing of 24-year-old Fenerbahce defender Ferdi Kadioglu, submitting an improved offer following the urging of their manager, Erik ten Hag.

Currently, United’s left-back options include Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. However, Malacia has been out of action for the past 14 months and has yet to rejoin pre-season training. With no definitive timeline for his return, the Red Devils are actively seeking a reliable alternative for the left-back position. Kadioglu has emerged as a prime candidate to bolster the squad.

Reports from A Spor indicate that Erik ten Hag is keen on bringing Kadioglu to Old Trafford, and Turkish outlet Sabah has corroborated this by revealing that United have put forward a bid of £21 million for the defender. Ten Hag is eager to integrate Kadioglu into his team for the upcoming season.

Despite United’s offer, Fenerbahce is holding out for a higher fee of £29.5 million. There is speculation that this price gap might be bridged through a player-plus-cash deal, potentially involving a current United player.

Kadioglu’s impressive performance last season saw him make 51 appearances for Fenerbahce, scoring three goals and providing five assists, primarily from the left-back position. His defensive stats are notable, with an 86 percent pass completion rate, 60 percent of duels won, and an average of 6.7 ball recoveries per game, along with two tackles won per match.

A product of NEC Nijmegen, Kadioglu has shown versatility and consistency in his all-around game, making him a suitable competitor for the injury-prone Luke Shaw. Shaw’s career has been marred by injuries since his severe leg break in 2015, and even Ten Hag has acknowledged that Shaw cannot be relied upon to play a full 60-game season.

Interestingly, Kadioglu is also adept at playing as a right-back due to his right-footedness, making him a potential backup for Diogo Dalot, especially with Aaron Wan-Bissaka possibly on his way out of the club.

Given Kadioglu’s versatility and talent, acquiring him seems like a strategic move. A player-plus-cash deal appears to be a viable solution, with Fenerbahce’s manager, Jose Mourinho, reportedly interested in reuniting with Victor Lindelof. Lindelof, who is in the final year of his contract at United, could be part of the negotiations, as United are also looking to bring in two new central defenders.

As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen how Manchester United will finalize this potential deal, but the addition of Kadioglu could significantly strengthen their defensive options for the upcoming season.
