Manchester United have made their first acquisition of the summer transfer window by securing the services of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, a club competing in Italy’s Serie A.
Reports from various media outlets suggest that Manchester United have committed to a deal amounting to £58.7 million, encompassing both the transfer fee and the player’s wages.
The Guardian has detailed that the Red Devils have agreed to pay Bologna a total of €42.5 million, or approximately £35.6 million. This sum is structured to be paid in installments over the next three years.
A pivotal factor in Manchester United’s successful pursuit of the Dutch international, particularly over rivals AC Milan, was their willingness to meet the commission demands set forth by Zirkzee’s agent. According to Calcio Mercato, Manchester United finalized the agreement by consenting to a commission fee of €10 million, which is about £8.4 million.
Additionally, the personal terms negotiated with Zirkzee include a five-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year. Corriere di Bologna reports that this contract is valued at £14.7 million over its duration, translating to an annual salary of roughly £2.9 million, or £56,000 per week.
While this weekly wage is modest by Manchester United’s standards, given their substantial wage bill, it still reflects the club’s significant investment in the promising young forward. Consequently, the overall value of the transaction, combining all associated fees and wages, totals approximately £58.7 million.
Upon joining Manchester United, Joshua Zirkzee expressed his enthusiasm and readiness for the new challenge that awaits him in the Premier League. As the season approaches, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how many goals the talented Dutch striker will net in his debut season with the English club.
