“We made a bet, I If he lose the Euro Finals, he will be replace by a Spanish right back. I showed him the players picture. I just wanted to challenge him but I am dead serious about it”-Man Utd fans left stunned by message Sir Jim Ratcliffe sent to Luke Shaw ahead of Euro 2024 final as he reveals what he discussed with Luke Shaw on his replacement.
Manchester United supporters were taken aback by the surprising message Sir Jim Ratcliffe directed at Luke Shaw ahead of the Euro 2024 final.
On Sunday, England’s men’s team is set to compete for their first significant title since 1966, facing Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
Throughout the tournament in Germany, Gareth Southgate’s squad has had moments of underperformance. However, they delivered a commendable display in the semi-finals against the Netherlands, securing a 2-1 victory.
Southgate seems poised to maintain the same starting eleven for the final, despite some advocating for Luke Shaw to start as the left wing-back in place of Kieran Trippier.
Shaw was included in the 26-man squad despite being sidelined with an injury since February. The Manchester United defender missed England’s initial four matches but made appearances off the bench in both the quarter-final and semi-final, substituting for Trippier.
Kieran Trippier, the Newcastle full-back, has also been dealing with an injury but appears likely to retain his spot against Spain. Ahead of the final in Berlin, BBC Sport compiled a montage featuring various celebrities sending their best wishes to Southgate and his team. Among them was Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the chairman of Manchester United’s minority owners, INEOS.
In the video, the 71-year-old expressed, “All the very best of luck on Sunday, and I sincerely hope that you are successful.”
At the end of the montage, Ratcliffe added a personal message, saying, “Luke, please don’t pull your hamstring again.”
Fans were astonished by his remarks.
“This is an all-timer from Sir Jim. Unreal stuff. Can’t lie… every United fan was thinking it,” one fan wrote on X.
Another fan expressed displeasure, stating, “Jim Ratcliffe really is embarrassing, isn’t he? One job, mate.”
A third fan remarked, “This nearly makes me want a Spain win.”
