Flick’s appointment followed a significant disagreement between the former coach, Xavi Hernandez, and Barcelona President, Joan Laporta.
Reports from the Spanish newspaper Sport indicate that Flick has determined it necessary for Barcelona to part with one of their star players during the summer transfer window, in anticipation of the upcoming preseason preparations. According to the newspaper, Flick has decided against the return of Joao Felix to Barcelona and has requested President Laporta to cease negotiations with Atletico Madrid regarding the player’s purchase or loan renewal.
Sport further reported that Flick is dissatisfied with Joao Felix’s recent performances, pointing to his loss of a starting position in the Portuguese national team and his inconsistent form with Barcelona last season.
The newspaper concluded that Flick has informed Joao Felix’s agent that the player will not be part of Barcelona’s squad next season and should seek opportunities with other clubs, possibly with Atletico Madrid.
