Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to share the news, stating, “Aston Villa has scheduled medical tests for Amadou Onana this Sunday. Should everything proceed without issues, Onana will finalize his move to Aston Villa on Monday. Everton will receive £50 million plus a sell-on clause and additional add-ons as previously reported. Here we go, confirmed.”
Despite preliminary interest from both Newcastle United and Manchester United, Aston Villa emerged victorious in the race to sign the 6-foot-5 midfielder. Newcastle had initially shown keen interest earlier in the year, eyeing Onana as a potential long-term successor to Joelinton. However, with Joelinton securing a new contract at St James’ Park, Newcastle’s pursuit of Onana waned, paving the way for Villa to make their move.
Onana’s journey to the Premier League began in 2022 when he transferred from Lille to Everton for £33 million. Since then, he has made 72 appearances and scored four goals for the Toffees.
