A former defender for La Liga powerhouse Barcelona is now taking financial steps to ensure his return to the club this summer.
According to Diario Sport, that player is João Cancelo.
It is widely known that Cancelo, a full-back, was on loan from Manchester City to Barcelona last season.
The management at Camp Nou was reportedly very pleased with the Portuguese player’s performance over the season, despite a series of high-profile mistakes towards the end.
In general, it appears this will be sufficient to facilitate Cancelo’s return to Barcelona.
Sport reports that the player, head coach Hansi Flick, and the rest of the Blaugrana team share a common goal: to reunite for the 2024–25 season.
Cancelo is so confident in this outcome that he is willing to accept a pay cut to demonstrate his commitment.
Consequently, Deco and his board of directors have accelerated the process to bring the adaptable defender back “on a season-long loan with a mandatory buy option if certain conditions are met.”
At 30 years old, Cancelo is not considering a move to any other club, leaving Manchester City with little choice. They are expected to approve the deal soon.
