FINALLY DONE: Manchester United announce the signing of £50m superstar, agreement reached last night on a 2yr deal, Medical schedule to hold today – Welcome to Old Trafford
Manchester United’s activity in the transfer market extends beyond just securing new players. The club is keen on reuniting with a familiar face, Sofyan Amrabat, at Old Trafford. The Moroccan international, who impressed during the 2022 World Cup, spent the previous season on loan with the Red Devils.
United had an option to make Amrabat’s loan permanent for £16.8 million, a clause that expired yesterday. However, the club opted not to exercise this option. Despite this, they remain interested in acquiring the 27-year-old midfielder but are aiming to negotiate a lower transfer fee.
Italian sports publication La Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that Fiorentina, Amrabat’s parent club, is now looking to negotiate a reduced fee with Manchester United. They are also open to discussing terms with other Premier League clubs that Amrabat might prefer, although the player is inclined to continue playing in England’s top division.
Manchester United are currently the frontrunners in the race to secure Amrabat’s services permanently. The midfielder himself is eager to remain at Old Trafford, which could give United an advantageous position in negotiations with Fiorentina.
Last season, Amrabat was not a regular starter under Erik ten Hag, making just 17 starts throughout the campaign. Nevertheless, he demonstrated his value toward the end of the season, even stepping in as a left-back when Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were unavailable.
Signing Amrabat on a permanent basis would be a strategic move for Manchester United, given his relatively low cost and versatility. His ability to play multiple positions would be a valuable asset for the team, and it appears that manager Erik ten Hag recognizes this potential.
The primary focus for United now is to reach a mutually agreeable fee with Fiorentina, who seem willing to part with the player under the right conditions. Finalizing this transfer quickly would benefit United by allowing them to concentrate on strengthening other areas of the squad for the remainder of the transfer window. Securing Amrabat’s services would set a positive tone for their summer business and provide them with the flexibility to address other needs in the team.
