England and Chelsea Star will miss Euro 2024 after devastating news has been confirmed this morning

The report from The Athletic indicates that Sam Johnstone, who serves as the backup goalkeeper for England, will be absent from Euro 2024 due to undergoing surgery on Wednesday morning.

The revelation has caught head coach Gareth Southgate off guard, as Crystal Palace’s goalkeeper becomes England’s initial casualty of injuries during this campaign.

Johnstone was slated to accompany Jordan Pickford to the tournament.

Considering his impressive performance throughout the season for the Selhurst Park club, he was on the verge of being included in Southgate’s final squad for the summer competition in Germany.

England is currently grappling with multiple injury concerns. Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker, and Johnstone opted out of Tuesday’s friendly match against Belgium, signaling their departure from the England camp on Sunday.

The goalkeeper, who was scheduled to start in the Belgium game, suffered an elbow injury inadvertently during an England training session on Sunday.

Consequently, he will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. The 31-year-old encountered the issue while attempting to block a shot.
