Hansi Flick prefers to sign this surprising player

Neco Williams has had an exceptional season, emerging as one of the most notable players this year. Barcelona’s interest in the Spanish player has been increasing, and he has been featured in international media for several months. Despite his recent contract renewal with Athletic Bilbao, a transfer to Barcelona seems more likely.

According to the Spanish newspaper “Sport,” Barcelona’s current financial challenges require them to sell players before they can afford to acquire Williams. While Williams is interested in joining Barcelona, German coach Hansi Flick, who admires him, has another preferred option for his team, which makes Williams a more viable signing for Barcelona.

The newspaper reported that Neco Williams’ statistics are impressive: he scored 8 goals and provided 17 assists in 38 matches. Although his shooting accuracy could improve, he is making progress in this area, as seen in his recent performances. Barcelona would need to pay his release clause of 60 million euros to secure his transfer from Bilbao.

Additionally, the newspaper noted that Hansi Flick would prefer to use the 60 million euros on another winger, who has scored more goals but provided fewer assists. This player is Luis Diaz, a star at Liverpool, who scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 51 matches this season.

Luis Diaz is reportedly keen on joining Barcelona and admires the club. Although his contract with Liverpool, which runs until 2027, does not include a release clause, the club is unlikely to let him go for less than 60 million euros. Hansi Flick favors Diaz over Neco Williams and has communicated this preference to Barcelona’s top officials.

Reports from several English media sources suggest that with Jurgen Klopp’s departure and Arne Slot’s arrival at Liverpool, Luis Diaz might not be a regular starter anymore. Consequently, Liverpool could be open to selling him if they receive a suitable offer. While multiple clubs are interested in Diaz, Barcelona remains his preferred destination if he decides to leave.
