“People regards me as the best manager in the world but honestly I know he’s better than me…Man United made the worst decision in football history by sacking such amazing coach and employed Erik ten Hag who doesn’t know anything about football”: Former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp admitted former Man United coach is the best manager in football history as he reveals Man United worst decision in history
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed high regard for Ralf Rangnick, the current coach of the Austrian national team, despite Rangnick’s less-than-stellar tenure at Manchester United. Rangnick was appointed as United’s interim manager for the 2021-22 season following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November 2021. However, his contract was only for six months, and after a disappointing spell, he was not retained, departing at the season’s end.
Klopp commended United for their decision to hire Rangnick, recognizing the German coach’s capabilities and experience. When Rangnick was announced as the new Manchester United manager, Klopp remarked, “Unfortunately a good coach is coming to England, that’s how it is, to Manchester United. Ralf is obviously a really experienced manager. He built most famously two clubs from nowhere to proper threats and forces in Germany with Hoffenheim and Leipzig. United will be organized on the pitch, we should realize that – that’s obviously not good news for other teams.”
Rangnick’s stint at Manchester United concluded with a record of 29 matches, including 11 victories, 10 draws, and 8 defeats. Despite the mixed results, his expertise was never in doubt, and he soon took on the role of head coach for the Austria national team.
Under Rangnick’s leadership, Austria has performed impressively in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, defying expectations by leading their group, which includes football giants France and the Netherlands. After a narrow loss to France in their opening Group D match, Austria bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Poland in Berlin.
Most recently, Austria secured a dramatic 3-2 win against Virgil van Dijk’s Netherlands, propelling them to the top of the group. This success followed France’s draw with Poland. The goals from Donyell Malen, Romano Schmid, and Marcel Sabitzer were pivotal in ensuring Austria’s triumph.
Looking ahead, Austria is set to face the runner-up of Group F in the round of 16 on July 2. As it stands, Turkey occupies this spot, but Georgia and the Czech Republic are close contenders, only two points behind Turkey, making the competition for the next stage intense.
Austria’s impressive performance in the tournament serves as a testament to Rangnick’s coaching abilities, suggesting that given more time, he might have achieved significant success with Manchester United. Klopp’s early praise for Rangnick appears justified, as the Austrian national team continues to thrive under his guidance.
