Celebration at Carrington as Manchester United Set to Announce £40m Signing of World Cup Semifinalist; Medical Scheduled Today
Excitement is building at Carrington as Manchester United prepares to announce the signing of a World Cup semifinalist for £40 million. The player has already chosen his jersey number, and his medical examination is scheduled for today.
In other news, Fenerbahce has expressed interest in former Manchester United player Sofyan Amrabat, but his current club, Fiorentina, is reluctant to loan him back to Old Trafford. Amrabat, the Moroccan midfielder, spent last season on loan at Manchester United but failed to make a significant impact.
Amrabat appeared in 30 games for Manchester United, but he only secured a regular spot in the starting lineup towards the end of the season when Casemiro was forced to play in central defense due to injuries. Despite his underwhelming performance overall, Amrabat played a key role in Manchester United’s FA Cup victory over Manchester City, earning praise from pundit Paul Scholes, who compared his performance to that of Gennaro Gattuso.
Despite this, Manchester United has opted not to exercise their €20 million option to make Amrabat’s move permanent, as they seek to bolster their midfield with other players this summer. According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Amrabat has returned to Fiorentina but is eager to leave. The Turkish club Fenerbahce is reportedly interested in signing him, with sources in Turkey confident that a deal will be reached. Fiorentina is asking for €15 million for Amrabat, a price that has deterred other potential suitors like Olympiakos and Galatasaray.
Jose Mourinho’s team has already offered just over €10 million, which is close to Fiorentina’s asking price. From Manchester United’s perspective, they are unwilling to spend €15 million to bring Amrabat back, preferring a loan deal instead, which seems unlikely as Fiorentina is looking to sell the 28-year-old.
Amrabat has expressed his desire to remain at Old Trafford, but his chances appear slim. Manchester United is currently in talks with Paris Saint-Germain for the signing of defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte and has also been linked with free agent Adrien Rabiot, who reportedly prefers a move to United.
However, if no one signs Amrabat and Manchester United struggles to secure a more expensive midfield signing, the club and the Moroccan player may find themselves in a last-minute arrangement by the end of August.
