“The two of them are world class players. I was surprise with their performance. They performed even better than my first team players. After the Pre-Season, we choose two academy player to be part of us this season. Just like Garnacho and Mainoo, I think they are ready after what they did at the Friendless, especially against Liverpool”-Erikten Hag decides Man Utd two academy star will be part of his first-team plans after US tour Pre-Season performances. “They will probably start against Manc City. That’s how good they are”
Erik ten Hag has reportedly made a decision regarding the future of a promising Manchester United academy player as the 2024/25 season approaches.
The Red Devils embarked on a pre-season tour in the United States this summer. During their time there, they experienced a mix of results: a loss to Arsenal, a victory against Real Betis, and a 3-0 defeat to Arne Slot’s Liverpool to cap off the tour.
Prominent players such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount, and Casemiro participated in the tour, alongside several of the club’s most promising youth talents. Among these young prospects were Harry Amass, Rhys Bennett, Toby Collyer, and Ethan Wheatley, all eager to showcase their abilities.
With the new season on the horizon, The Athletic has reported that Ten Hag has decided that full-back Harry Amass will remain with Manchester United for the season. However, a decision is still pending regarding Toby Collyer. While Ten Hag holds Collyer in high regard, he must determine whether the youngster would benefit more from a loan spell or continued development within the club.
Reflecting on the pre-season tour experience, Rhys Bennett shared his thoughts: “Firstly, it’s about getting minutes on the pitch and gaining invaluable experience for me and the other young players. Pre-season is always about preparation, and while you aim to win every game, sometimes results don’t go your way. We were a bit unlucky.”
He continued, “We had some strong moments in both halves, but it’s unfortunate that we didn’t get the results we aimed for. Despite that, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I’ve given my all in training and gained a lot from it. Playing in such matches alongside world-class players is an incredible bonus. Competing alongside and against top-tier talent is something I’ll carry with me throughout my career.”
Looking ahead, Manchester United is set to face their local rivals, Manchester City, in the FA Community Shield at Wembley this weekend.
