“My client and I has issue simply because I told him to snub Man United and join Arsenal”: Agent of 165M talented player confirms the player open to only Man United move as personal terms is already agreed
Manchester United are on the hunt for a defensive midfielder this summer, aiming to accelerate their efforts as the new Premier League season approaches.
Last month, Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte was highlighted as their primary target. However, it was reported recently that Manchester United have decided not to pursue a formal bid for him.
The club is unwilling to meet the £51.5 million asking price for Ugarte and is now exploring other options to strengthen their midfield.
In our opinion, Manchester United should consider targeting Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, who is anticipated to be sold with his contract expiring next summer.
Fofana has already been identified as a potential alternative for United, with reports suggesting he could be available for around £30 million.
Earlier this summer, AC Milan reached personal terms with Fofana, but they backed out of a deal after Monaco raised his valuation. Reports indicate that interest from Atletico Madrid and Manchester United prompted this price increase.
With Atletico Madrid likely to sign Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, Manchester United could have a clearer path to securing Fofana.
Fofana would be a valuable addition at a reasonable fee. The former Strasbourg player was on the radar of Premier League clubs last summer, with Nottingham Forest and Fulham showing interest, but he chose to remain at Monaco.
This transfer window, Fofana is expected to choose a new club. He would be a strong acquisition for Manchester United, known for his robust defensive abilities and relentless work ethic in midfield.
The 25-year-old demonstrated his skills in Ligue 1 last season, winning 50 percent of his duels and averaging 7.2 recoveries and 1.9 tackles per game. He also completed 60 percent of his take-ons for Monaco.
While Fofana’s passing accuracy of 82 percent is lower than Ugarte’s 91 percent, he compensates with his ability to quickly cover ground when the team is out of possession.
Although Fofana does not possess Ugarte’s tackling and distribution strengths, he would still be a good alternative and an improvement over Casemiro.
