“I wounder why he no clubhas signed him. He is a great defender and he is a world class just like Sergio Ramos in Spain”-After Playing against Man City, Man United coach confirms that they will need another defender to avoid injury crisis during the season. Man Utd ‘make contact’ with free agent in surprise move after Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro injury setbacks

Manchester United has reportedly reached out to a free agent as they grapple with significant injury challenges, particularly to key players like Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro.
Recently, the club confirmed that their new summer signing, Leny Yoro, had to undergo surgery after fracturing a metatarsal in his left foot during a pre-season clash against Arsenal. Yoro, a promising 18-year-old center-back who was brought in from Lille just last month, now faces a lengthy recovery period and is expected to be out of action for approximately three months.
Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, is facing a mounting injury crisis. Rasmus Hojlund, another key player, is also sidelined due to an injury sustained in pre-season, leaving the squad further depleted. With the Community Shield match against Manchester City looming on Saturday, ten Hag disclosed that several players are doubtful for the high-stakes game at Wembley.
“Harry Maguire missed the game against Liverpool as a precaution, but his availability for Saturday remains uncertain,” ten Hag explained. “We’ll have to evaluate his fitness to see if he can be ready.”
He also mentioned that Victor Lindelof played recently but is still a doubt, along with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw. “We’ll be assessing their conditions tomorrow [Friday] to determine if they can be available for selection,” he added.
Although ten Hag did not provide a specific update on Shaw’s injury, reports have surfaced suggesting that the club is looking to strengthen their defensive options. According to journalist Máximo de la Cruz Ramírez, Manchester United has initiated contact with Mario Hermoso, a former Atletico Madrid defender who is currently available as a free agent.
Hermoso, a 29-year-old Spanish center-back who also has experience playing as a left-back under the management of Diego Simeone, is reportedly seeking a gross salary of €6 million (£5.1 million) and a three-year contract. Ramírez noted that “negotiations are still in the early stages, and it remains to be seen how they will progress.”
Hermoso brings a wealth of experience, having made 174 appearances for Atletico Madrid during his five-year stint with the club. He was instrumental in their 2020/21 La Liga title-winning campaign, where Atletico’s defense was formidable, conceding only 25 goals across the league season. Hermoso featured in 31 of those matches, contributing significantly to their success.
Since the expiration of his contract with Atletico Madrid in June, Hermoso’s representatives have reportedly approached other Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa and West Ham, offering the experienced defender’s services.
