Football legend John Terry have blasted Chelsea’s transfer strategy over the last few windows. The West London club has spent a fortune in the transfer market under the stewardship of their new American owner, Todd Boehly. They have signed 11 players in the ongoing summer transfer window.

In recent transfer windows, football pundits Andy Townsend and Ally McCoist have been critical of Chelsea’s transfer strategy. Under the leadership of their new American owner, Todd Boehly, the West London club has spent vast sums of money on acquiring new players. This summer alone, Chelsea has brought in 11 new signings.

During a recent discussion on the football show *Footballwave*, McCoist and Townsend expressed their concerns about Chelsea’s approach. McCoist remarked, “To put it bluntly, they look like a basket case.” Townsend, who played for Chelsea in the past, agreed with McCoist’s assessment, adding, “It really does seem that way; they’re bringing in a large number of players, possibly stockpiling talent because they believe something big is coming. It must be a strange environment to be part of.” McCoist further commented on the situation, stating, “It’s chaotic; there are simply too many players to manage. While it may sound harsh, I can’t feel too sorry for Enzo Maresca because he must have known what he was getting into.” He continued, “He would have been aware of what he was signing up for, maybe not to the extent it has reached, but he would have had a clear idea.”

On Sunday, August 18, Chelsea kicked off the 2024–25 Premier League season with a 2-0 defeat against reigning champions Manchester City. As they prepare to face Servette of Switzerland in the UEFA Conference League qualification round, Chelsea will be eager to secure their first win of the season.

In a related development, former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher penned an emotional farewell letter to the club after completing a move to Atletico Madrid. Gallagher, who rose through the ranks of Chelsea’s renowned Cobham academy and even captained the team during the previous Premier League season, expressed his gratitude and love for the club in his message. Reports suggest that Gallagher was in the final year of his contract and had hoped for a long-term renewal, but Chelsea only offered short-term deals. After his transfer was finalized, Gallagher took to Instagram to share his heartfelt message. “To everyone at Chelsea, thank you for making my dreams come true,” he wrote. “Leading the team on several occasions was a dream come true, and it has been an incredible honor each time I wore the shirt. I cherished every moment. These memories will last forever. Thank you to all the fans for your love and support. Hearing my name chanted at the Bridge was a unique experience, and I was deeply moved by the banner you put up. I appreciate everything you have done. I hope to see you all at Stamford Bridge soon and wish the club the best of luck in the future.”

Atletico Madrid reportedly paid Chelsea around €40 million for Gallagher’s transfer. In addition, Chelsea has also signed Portuguese forward Joao Felix from the Spanish club.
