We can’t rely on him any longer. He needs to leave. His mind is not here with us and here is why. After what he told me, I decided to take him out of my plans this season”-Erik ten Hag finally breaks silence as he reveals what Jadon Sancho told him as he is set to leave the club
Jadon Sancho has recently re-emerged as part of Manchester United’s first team, a year after a widely publicized disagreement with manager Erik ten Hag, which resulted in his exclusion from the squad.
Last season, Sancho was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund for the latter half, seemingly mending fences with ten Hag before returning to United’s pre-season tour in the United States. However, his future at the club has once again come into question after being left out of the squad for United’s Premier League opener against Fulham last Friday. Although Sancho was reportedly dealing with an ear infection, ten Hag’s comment that he “preferred other players” hinted at deeper issues within the team dynamics.
At Old Trafford, Sancho now finds himself behind several players in the pecking order. Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho, and even Antony are currently favored for starting positions, making Sancho’s situation more precarious.
Reports from RMC Sport suggest that Juventus has shown interest in signing Sancho, with negotiations allegedly taking place between the two clubs. It is believed that Manchester United is seeking a transfer fee in the region of €30 million (£25 million) for the winger. Chelsea and Barcelona have also been rumored to have an interest in acquiring Sancho.
During a press conference on Thursday, ten Hag was non-committal about whether Sancho would be included in the squad for the upcoming Premier League match against Brighton. However, he did issue a stern message to Sancho and the rest of the team, stressing the importance of accepting difficult decisions related to team selection.
When questioned about Sancho’s potential involvement in the weekend’s match, ten Hag stated, “We will see. We have a squad, and I hope we will have a squad with double positions. Once the season progresses after September 1, it will be impossible to select all players, but they are all needed throughout the season.”
He further emphasized that managing the squad’s attitude is crucial, saying, “The players’ mindset is key. They will face disappointment at times, but they must handle it. Success is achieved as a squad.”
Ten Hag concluded by stressing the importance of motivation throughout the season: “The trophies are won in May, and until then, every player in the squad must remain highly motivated. This is not merely an expectation; it is a requirement.”
