“I actually had problems at Manchester United, but it’s not everything you heard was true. This was actually what happened. They gave me back my number but (No.11) but I felt disappointed when they told me this…”-Formal Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood narrated what really happened and why he left Manchester United for good after huge accusation that almost ruined his career. “I was getting ready to play for Manchester United this season but you can’t believe what they told me”
Mason Greenwood appears to have made a significant choice regarding his international football career following his recent move to Marseille, according to a report.
The 22-year-old forward, who completed a permanent transfer from Manchester United earlier this summer, quickly made his presence felt at Marseille. On his Ligue 1 debut, under the guidance of former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, Greenwood scored twice, signaling his intent to make a strong impact in French football.
Greenwood’s international experience with the England senior team is limited to a single appearance, which occurred in September 2020. In that Nations League match against Iceland, Greenwood entered the game as a late substitute. However, his debut was overshadowed by an off-field incident, as both he and fellow England player Phil Foden were sent home for breaching COVID-19 regulations shortly after the match.
Since that incident, Greenwood has been absent from England’s national team selections. His exclusion was further compounded by serious legal troubles that arose in January 2022, when he was arrested on charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm. Although these charges were officially brought against him in October 2022, they were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023.
Despite these setbacks, Greenwood, who has Jamaican heritage, remains eligible to represent Jamaica on the international stage. FIFA rules permit players to switch their national allegiances if they have made fewer than four competitive appearances before the age of 21.
Jamaica’s new head coach, Steve McClaren, a former assistant coach at Manchester United, has expressed interest in bringing Greenwood into the Jamaican national team fold. During his introductory press conference, McClaren revealed that he had already spoken briefly with Greenwood. He emphasized the importance of commitment from all eligible players, noting that he intended to have more in-depth discussions with Greenwood and other potential recruits to assess their interest in playing for Jamaica.
According to a report by *The Sun*, Greenwood has now decided to change his international allegiance to Jamaica. The report suggests that Jamaica has already initiated formal proceedings with the English Football Association to complete the necessary paperwork for Greenwood’s switch.
Jamaica has not participated in the World Cup since their debut appearance in 1998. However, with the tournament set to expand to 48 teams in 2026, their chances of qualification have improved. McClaren, who recently signed a two-year contract to lead the Jamaican national team, will be aiming to guide the Reggae Boyz to their second World Cup appearance.
