Chelsea is considering a move to acquire Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho. The 24-year-old has been a topic of transfer discussions this summer, particularly after he was included in Manchester United’s squad for their match against Brighton but did not play.

Jadon Sancho’s future at Manchester United remains in a state of uncertainty, despite efforts from manager Erik ten Hag to resolve past tensions and mend their relationship. These lingering issues were a significant factor behind Sancho’s loan move to Borussia Dortmund last season. Although the winger had a brief stint on the field during the Community Shield against Manchester City, he has yet to appear in any Premier League matches this season, intensifying the speculation about his role and future at Old Trafford.
Reports from Sky Sports suggest that Chelsea is seriously considering making a significant offer to bring Sancho to Stamford Bridge. However, they are expected to face strong competition from Juventus, who are also keen on acquiring the young winger. Interestingly, Chelsea might explore the option of a player swap deal with Manchester United, a move driven by their need to trim their oversized squad before the transfer window closes. This strategy not only aids in potentially securing Sancho but also helps Chelsea address the issue of having too many players on their roster.
On the other hand, Juventus is primarily interested in a loan deal for Sancho. However, Manchester United would prefer to sell the player outright to recoup part of their initial investment. Nevertheless, the club hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of a loan deal if it aligns with their strategic goals. When Sancho joined Manchester United in 2021, the transfer fee was a substantial £73 million. With two years remaining on his contract, the Red Devils are looking to recover around half of that amount through a sale.
For Chelsea to successfully negotiate a deal for Sancho, they might need to offload up to six players to make space within their squad. This situation has become more pressing as Chelsea is also in the market for a new striker this summer, adding another layer of complexity to their transfer plans. Raheem Sterling, who has recently fallen out of favor at the club, could potentially be included in a swap deal with Manchester United involving Sancho. Such a move would help Chelsea manage their squad size while also meeting United’s valuation requirements for Sancho.
Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s coach, has already taken steps to address the squad’s size by excluding Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell from the main training group. In a recent press conference, Maresca explained, “Sterling and Chilwell are currently training separately from the rest of the squad. With our roster being as large as it is, it’s challenging to ensure everyone gets enough playing time. If they want more minutes on the pitch, a move elsewhere might be the best option for them. However, if they decide to stay, they remain Chelsea players and will continue to be under contract.”
Amid these ongoing squad management challenges and the uncertainty surrounding several players, Chelsea has managed to secure their first Premier League victory of the season. They achieved a convincing 6-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Noni Madueke standing out by scoring a hat-trick in the second half. Additional goals from Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, and Joao Felix rounded off the victory, providing a much-needed morale boost for the team amidst the transfer speculations and internal adjustments.
