“He is not Manchester United type of coach. He will be sacked just like Erik ten Hag. This two coaches are the only best option for Manchester united not him”-Paul Scholes questions ‘risky’ Ruben Amorim appointment and names two alternatives Man Utd must sign instead of the Sporting Lisbon coach.

Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has voiced concerns over the club’s interest in Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as a potential replacement following Erik ten Hag’s recent dismissal. United announced ten Hag’s departure on Monday after a narrow 2-1 defeat by West Ham, ending his two-year leadership at Old Trafford.

Speculation has been mounting that Amorim is a leading candidate to fill the managerial gap. However, Scholes has expressed reservations about Amorim’s suitability for a club as demanding as United and has suggested that other candidates might be better suited to the role. Amorim’s growing reputation across Europe has led to links with prominent clubs like Liverpool and West Ham after Jurgen Klopp and David Moyes’ respective departures, reflecting his rising status. Yet, Scholes isn’t entirely convinced Amorim would be the right choice to steer United forward.

In an interview with the Premier League’s official website, Scholes commented on the situation, stating, “Amorim is intriguing but comes with certain risks. His approach to the game is impressive, and he’s been rumored for even bigger clubs, including Manchester City, which says a lot about his abilities. However, many of these managers succeed in environments where the pressure isn’t as intense or relentless as it is at United.”

Scholes also pointed to Brentford’s Thomas Frank as a manager with potential, though he acknowledged that the expectations at Brentford aren’t nearly as high as those United faces. Scholes noted his admiration for Thomas Tuchel, who is currently with the England national team, but stressed that United’s next manager ideally needs experience handling the demands of a top-tier club.

With Frank still gaining experience and Tuchel currently unavailable, Scholes urged United to keep Zinedine Zidane in mind as an option alongside Amorim. “Manchester United is one of the world’s largest clubs, and they should be striving to attract the very best. Zidane has proven himself by winning major titles at the highest level. However, it’s uncertain whether he has any interest in managing in the Premier League or if language could be a hurdle,” Scholes added.

As United assesses its options, the club’s next steps are likely to be scrutinized closely, with fans and experts alike debating the ideal candidate to take the helm and guide United back to its glory days.
