An £85 million-rated midfielder is now being included as part of a swap deal in Real Madrid’s pursuit of Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez. This potential part-exchange arrangement suggests Real Madrid’s strong interest in bringing Fernandez into their squad.
Real Madrid is reportedly prepared to part ways with their French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and might use him in a deal to bring Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez to Spain. Tchouameni, who joined Real Madrid from AS Monaco in 2022 for around £85 million, has become a regular presence, making over 100 appearances across competitions.
Though Tchouameni faced minor injuries last season, he still managed to appear in 38 games, contributing to Real Madrid’s successes in La Liga, the Champions League, and the Supercopa de Espana. This season, he has featured prominently, starting in 13 out of Madrid’s 15 games, mostly in defensive midfield and occasionally as a center-back.
Despite his significant playing time, reports suggest that Real Madrid might be open to selling Tchouameni. The Spanish publication Relevo indicates that the midfielder may have seen a decline in form, leading some within the club to consider alternatives. While manager Carlo Ancelotti reportedly continues to support Tchouameni and sees him as an ideal midfield pivot, the club’s leadership appears more confident in another young star, Eduardo Camavinga, sparking speculation over Tchouameni’s future.
According to a separate report from Fichajes, Real Madrid could leverage Tchouameni as part of an offer to Chelsea for their Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez. Chelsea is believed to value Fernandez highly, having paid a record £107 million for him in early 2023. Since then, he has played 74 games, scoring seven goals and providing six assists. While the London club isn’t actively looking to sell him, Fichajes reports that Fernandez may be considering a move due to limited playtime and perceived slow progress in Chelsea’s project under manager Enzo Maresca.
Real Madrid is said to be ready to offer Chelsea a package of around €100 million (approximately £84.4 million) for Fernandez. However, to finance this, Madrid may need to sell Tchouameni or propose a part-exchange deal involving him. If Tchouameni becomes available, Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool, who have previously shown interest in the French international, could enter the fray.
Chelsea initially had an interest in Tchouameni before his move to Real Madrid, though it’s uncertain whether they would revisit that interest if Madrid offers him as part of a deal for Fernandez. Meanwhile, Fernandez still has more than seven years left on his Chelsea contract, and the club has strengthened its midfield with players like Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Cesare Casadei, making a departure less likely.
Additionally, Real Madrid may be eyeing other midfield options if they proceed with Tchouameni’s sale. Relevo reports that Manchester City’s Rodri has emerged as another possible target for Los Blancos, should Tchouameni be allowed to depart.
