“Rúben Amorim told me to come and train with them, if I do well, I will join his team just like Johnny Evans did under Erik tenHag. He really gave me a lifeline and I am grateful to him. I owe Manchester United the Premier League and Champions League and promise to deliver this time with the new coach”-GOOD NEWS FOR MANCHESTER UNITED FANS as Paul Pgba plans to return to Manchester United and train, just like Jonny Evans did as he plans to impress Rúben Amorim and help the team win trophies.
Former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna has expressed confidence that Paul Pogba would eagerly accept an opportunity to return to Manchester United for a third stint, particularly under the leadership of the club’s current manager, Ruben Amorim.
The 31-year-old French midfielder, who played a pivotal role in France’s 2018 World Cup triumph, is currently without a club after parting ways with Juventus earlier this month. His second tenure at the Italian club was short-lived and marred by challenges, as Pogba managed only 12 appearances before facing a doping scandal that disrupted his career.
In September 2023, Pogba was handed a four-year suspension for testing positive for a banned substance. However, this penalty was later reduced to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which ruled that the ingestion of the substance was unintentional. As a result, Pogba is eligible to resume training in January 2024 and make his return to competitive football by March.
Despite these setbacks, Pogba’s exceptional abilities on the pitch are undeniable. Sagna, Pogba’s former teammate on the French national team, believes that a return to Old Trafford could be a realistic possibility, especially given the positive changes under Amorim’s management. Sagna highlighted the allure of playing for a coach who understands the dynamics of being a player.
In an interview with Mega Dice, Sagna remarked:
“The Manchester United Paul left is very different from the one we see today. With Ruben Amorim in charge, the club has a young manager who has experienced the pressures of playing at the top level. Amorim is likely to appreciate a player of Pogba’s caliber. As someone who knows Paul well, I can tell you he has a deep affection for United. A return could be a perfect match.”
Reflecting on Pogba’s prior tenure at United, Sagna emphasized that the challenges Pogba faced were not solely his fault but were symptomatic of the broader struggles the club experienced during that era.
“Paul has a genuine love for United, but the environment when he rejoined wasn’t ideal. It was a difficult time for many players, not just him,” Sagna explained.
Manchester United’s current midfield setup has been tested by injuries, with key players like Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte sidelined. During their recent 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town, midfield stalwarts Casemiro and Christian Eriksen started but were substituted later, underscoring the team’s need for reinforcements.
If Pogba becomes available in March, his return could provide a much-needed boost to United’s midfield depth. While it remains uncertain whether Amorim sees Pogba as part of his vision for the team, Sagna’s insights suggest that the possibility of a reunion is far from implausible. A comeback of this magnitude would undoubtedly capture the football world’s attention.
