Some Chelsea staff members feel £46.3m player might be unhappy with Enzo Maresca set to speak to him

Enzo Maresca has demonstrated tactical flexibility by selecting entirely different starting lineups for UEFA Conference League matches. Notably, he has intentionally excluded players such as Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana, and Cole Palmer from the European squad. This approach serves two purposes: it provides valuable playing opportunities for other members of the team while also ensuring that key players remain physically prepared and protected from overexertion.

This level of squad depth is a luxury that few European teams can afford. However, it does come with challenges. The intense competition for spots in the lineup means that some players may become dissatisfied with limited playing time, potentially leading to frustration within the squad.

One player who appears to be feeling the effects of this fierce competition is Joao Felix. The Portuguese forward has found it difficult to secure regular starting opportunities under Maresca’s management this season. Reports indicate that Chelsea plans to have discussions with Felix to better understand his perspective, as there are growing concerns about his happiness with his current role in the team.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, there is an increasing belief within the Chelsea camp that Felix, who dons the No.14 jersey, is discontent with his restricted involvement. Despite the club investing £46.3 million to acquire him from Atletico Madrid in August, Felix has started in only two of Chelsea’s 17 Premier League games this season.

Beyond his limited league appearances, the forward from Viseu has made just two starts in the UEFA Conference League and two additional starts in the Carabao Cup. This lack of consistent game time has become a concern for both Felix and the club, prompting efforts to address the situation and find a resolution.
