Why Isn’t Marc Guiu Getting More Chances at Chelsea? Maresca Responds

Why Isn’t Marc Guiu Getting More Chances at Chelsea? Maresca Explains
Chelsea are actively searching for a reliable striker to ease the pressure on Nicolas Jackson, who has been struggling to find the back of the net. Jackson has now gone seven consecutive Premier League matches without scoring, prompting the club to explore options such as Brighton’s Evan Ferguson. Despite this search for reinforcements, many fans are questioning why promising young forward Marc Guiu has not been given more significant playing time.
Guiu, who was brought in as a backup striker, has yet to see meaningful minutes on the pitch despite Jackson’s ongoing scoring woes. Supporters had hoped the young talent would be given more chances to prove himself, but so far, his contributions have been limited to brief appearances during matches.
When asked about Guiu’s situation in a recent press conference, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca provided some insight. The pressing question was whether Guiu had shown enough progress to warrant more game time.
“Marc is improving a lot, to be honest. He is doing fantastic. Day by day, he is getting more and more ready for that sort of game,” Maresca remarked optimistically.
However, the manager tempered his praise by explaining the complexity of his decision-making process:
“Sometimes the decision is because I see something, and sometimes it is good, sometimes it is not. For sure, Marc, I think day after day, he is more ready.”
While Maresca’s comments highlighted Guiu’s development, they did little to guarantee that the young striker would see more action in upcoming matches. The manager avoided making any clear promises about giving Guiu extended game time, instead focusing on the player’s ongoing growth.
Chelsea’s upcoming fixture against West Ham could be a pivotal moment for Guiu. Many supporters are hoping he will be given a meaningful opportunity to showcase his talents. However, based on Maresca’s cautious remarks, it seems unlikely that the young striker will feature for more than a few minutes—if he plays at all.
Maresca also shared his thoughts on the challenge posed by West Ham under manager Graham Potter, offering insight into what Chelsea should expect:
“They are very aggressive. I watched four or five games with Graham in charge. You can see they are trying to be very aggressive, even in the last game against Aston Villa. It will be a tough game, like always.”
Facing a high-intensity West Ham side might seem like an ideal opportunity for Guiu to make an impact. However, whether Maresca will take the risk of trusting the young forward remains to be seen.
For now, Chelsea continues its search for a new striker to solve their attacking issues. Yet, the solution to their current problems may already be within the squad—if only Guiu is given the chance to prove himself.
