According to Fabrizio Romano, it has been reported that Anthony Gordon has decided to join FC Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that both Manchester City and Liverpool are showing strong interest in Newcastle United’s winger, Anthony Gordon. The England international has had an outstanding season with Newcastle, attracting the attention of several top-tier Premier League clubs. This summer, Newcastle United’s squad has garnered significant interest, with numerous players catching the eye of elite teams.

One player who has notably caught the attention of Arsenal is Alexander Isak, while Bruno Guimaraes is being closely monitored by Manchester City, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain. Among these prominent players, Anthony Gordon has made remarkable progress since his transfer from Everton to Newcastle. His impressive performances have even earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England national team.

Although Gordon has been with Newcastle for less than a year, his rapid development has already piqued the interest of bigger clubs. David Ornstein confirmed in a recent Q&A session with The Athletic that Manchester City is particularly interested in Gordon, and that Liverpool, along with other clubs, also holds him in high regard. However, Ornstein mentioned that Liverpool is unlikely to pursue Gordon aggressively, as Newcastle has no intention of selling him. Even if negotiations were to occur, the transfer fee would likely be prohibitively high. Ornstein is confident that Gordon will remain with Newcastle for the foreseeable future.

Given Gordon’s background with Everton’s academy, a move to Liverpool could be seen as controversial. On the other hand, a transfer to Manchester City could be highly appealing, offering him the chance to play alongside some of the world’s best players and compete for major trophies. Despite these tempting opportunities, it may be more beneficial for Gordon to stay at Newcastle at this stage in his career. Under the guidance of Eddie Howe, Gordon has made significant strides and shown considerable growth. Continuing his development at Newcastle could allow him to reach his full potential before considering a move to a larger club.

Newcastle’s reluctance to sell Anthony Gordon highlights their understanding of his importance to the team. His contributions have been vital to the club’s success, and losing him would be a significant setback. The management is expected to prioritize retaining such a key player as they aim to build on recent achievements and enhance their competitiveness in the Premier League.
