Hansi Flick: ‘Today, we can celebrate’

Following Barcelona’s thrilling 3-2 extra-time triumph over Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final, head coach Hansi Flick openly shared his reflections on the intense and hard-fought match.

“As you would expect from a final, it was an intense battle between two absolutely outstanding teams,” Flick began. “Both sides gave everything they had until the very last moment. I have an immense amount of respect for Real Madrid — they are an exceptional team — and at the same time, I am deeply proud and moved by the incredible effort and passion my players demonstrated throughout the game. You could truly feel the heart and commitment they brought to the pitch. Today, we will allow ourselves a well-deserved celebration. However, starting tomorrow, our attention must immediately shift to preparing for the next challenges that lie ahead.”

The German manager made it a point to express heartfelt appreciation for his squad’s efforts, emphasizing not just their technical skill but their fighting spirit and mentality:
“I feel extremely thankful to this group of players,” Flick said warmly. “They performed at an extraordinary level, constantly pushing forward in search of goals, refusing to back down or lose hope at any stage. Their resilience and determination were simply remarkable, and I could not be prouder.”

Flick also spoke briefly about the cordial relationship he shares with Real Madrid’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, highlighting the mutual admiration between the two experienced coaches:
“Before the match, we exchanged good wishes for luck,” Flick revealed. “I hold Carlo Ancelotti in very high regard. He is a true gentleman of the game, and it is always an honor to compete against a manager of his caliber.”

Adding to the atmosphere of gratitude and focus, Ferran Torres — who scored a pivotal equalizing goal during the match — also echoed his coach’s sentiments.
“It’s a fantastic moment for all of us,” Torres said. “But it’s crucial that we don’t lose our concentration. We have to stay grounded and continue building on this victory if we want to achieve even more.”
