Chelsea’s Ambitious Transfer Plans for the 2025–26 Season
Chelsea Football Club is reportedly making significant efforts to strengthen the left-wing position in preparation for the upcoming 2025–26 football season. According to Football Transfers, the club has pinpointed two major targets to potentially fill this role: Rafael Leao from AC Milan and Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United.
Reports from CaughtOffside indicate that Chelsea has already initiated informal discussions with Rafael Leao, signaling genuine interest. Simultaneously, TBR Football reveals that the club is also engaged in early-stage conversations with the representatives of Alejandro Garnacho. These two players are currently at the top of Chelsea’s wish list. In addition to them, other previously considered options include Jamie Bynoe-Gittens of Borussia Dortmund and Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao.
However, Chelsea’s plans may face complications, as Premier League rivals Arsenal are also interested in both Williams and Bynoe-Gittens. Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal is perceived as offering a more attractive long-term vision, which could influence the decisions of these players.
At Chelsea, there are concerns about the current options on the left wing. The club is reportedly dissatisfied with the performances of Jadon Sancho, while Mykhailo Mudryk is currently suspended due to a positive doping test. These issues have prompted Chelsea to seriously pursue new talent, particularly Leao and Garnacho.
Rafael Leao is believed to be available for a transfer fee in the region of €75 million, whereas Manchester United is likely to demand around €70 million for Garnacho. If Manchester United secures a suitable replacement—such as Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, whom they are currently targeting—then Garnacho may be more inclined to leave the club. Garnacho’s performance this season has been notable, with 21 goal contributions (a combination of goals and assists) across 55 appearances.
Chelsea had attempted to sign Garnacho during the January transfer window earlier this year, but those negotiations ultimately fell through. However, the club has now reopened talks, showing that their interest has not diminished. As for Leao, Chelsea has been monitoring him for some time, and his outstanding record this season—12 goals and 13 assists, totaling 25 goal involvements—has only increased their desire to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
A Busy Summer Transfer Window Expected Under New Management
Looking beyond the left wing, Chelsea is preparing for a very active summer transfer period under the leadership of new manager Enzo Maresca. Maresca is expected to overhaul several areas of the squad in order to better position the team for future success.
In addition to signing a left winger, Chelsea is also in the market for a new striker and a central defender. The team’s current striker, Nicolas Jackson, has seen a dip in form towards the end of the season, and with Christopher Nkunku possibly leaving, reinforcements in the attacking line are a priority. Two strikers currently under consideration are Victor Osimhen and Liam Delap.
For the central defensive position, Chelsea is keeping a close eye on Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace and Dean Huijsen from Juventus as potential recruits.
Chelsea also has aspirations of returning to the top tiers of European football. They are set to face Real Betis in the UEFA Europa Conference League final on May 28. Winning that match could potentially secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season, a prospect that would significantly enhance Chelsea’s ability to attract top-tier players.
