Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy has openly expressed his deep disappointment following their 3-1 victory over Barcelona in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals—a result that was ultimately not enough to see them through, as they were knocked out with a 5-3 aggregate loss.
Guirassy, who delivered an outstanding performance by scoring a hat-trick during the match, shared that, despite giving his all and producing one of the best games of his career, his aspirations of orchestrating a historic comeback for Dortmund were crushed. He attributed much of this frustration to an unfortunate own goal by his teammate Ramy Bensebaini in the first leg, which had placed the team at a significant disadvantage from the outset.
> “My goal was to punish Barcelona and carry us into the semi-finals. I believed we could do it,” Guirassy reportedly said after the game. “But Ramy’s own goal in the first leg made our task incredibly difficult. It felt like that moment took away the opportunity I had envisioned for us.”
Guirassy’s remarks underline the unforgiving nature of football at the elite level, where a single misstep can alter the outcome of an entire tie. Although Dortmund triumphed in the second leg, the damage done in the first leg was ultimately too severe to overturn.
