OFFICIAL NOW: Man United completes the signing of £60m south American star, medical schedule to hold tomorrow – Ten Hag first summer signing finally confirmed
On Monday, renowned Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that Lazio is strategizing a bold move to secure Manchester United’s talented forward, Mason Greenwood.
The following day, Corriere della Sera provided an update on Lazio’s pursuit of the young player, detailing their efforts to bring him to Serie A. In addition to Greenwood, Lazio is also actively negotiating to acquire Udinese’s Lazar Samardžić. The club’s objective is to finalize a deal with at least one of these players as swiftly as possible.
According to the newspaper, two high-ranking officials from Lazio flew to England on Monday. Their mission was to engage in direct negotiations with Manchester United regarding the 22-year-old Greenwood. Representing Lazio chairman Claudio Lotito, these officials proposed an offer of €18 million plus 50% of any future transfer fee for Greenwood. However, this proposal fell short of Manchester United’s expectations. The Premier League club, under the guidance of manager Erik ten Hag, is firm on their demand for a €35 million cash payment and is not open to alternative payment structures.
Despite Lazio’s persistence, Manchester United remains steadfast, refusing to lower their asking price. The Italian club recognizes the challenge ahead but remains committed to their pursuit. The Lazio officials plan to continue discussions with Manchester United, aiming to find a mutually agreeable solution.
Corriere della Sera further reports that Manchester United’s reluctance to close the deal with Lazio is due to their anticipation of receiving better offers from other clubs. As the situation develops, Lazio is prepared to push forward, hoping to secure Greenwood’s transfer despite the hurdles they face.
